Launch Week: Searching for Limbs
This week, I have a new single out. A blues-dub number called "Searching for Limbs". It's a play on the English folk song title "Searching for Lambs".
The lyrics are set on a small pier in Helsinki, where I am imagining what I see, and - very superficially - what they could mean. Searching for Lambs is about going out one May morning. When you're stood on a pier that's jutting out into the sea, the motion switches from 'walking around to see different things' to 'standing still as things moving past you'. Starting from the title, those things became limbs.
The music started as a one-chord vamp in 5/4 but the lyrics started taking on a blues form, so I went with it. As I built the rest of the song out, I had this idea of bringing in different types of blues instruments in as characters. There are clean and distorted lead guitars, and some cinematic horns that give it a bit of a detective film vibe. Listen out for the almost-Fela-meets-the-Wailers break with clavinet stabs.
Anyway, here's the music:
